”The definition of a protective hairstyle is a style that tucks the ends of your hair away from being exposed to damaging agents such as sun, heat, and constant manipulation. Protecting hair is beneficial to all types of hair textures, relaxed, and natural.” -Thirsty Roots
The pros and cons of protective styling.
PROS The biggest pro of protective styling for me would be not having to deal with my hair… Waking up and not having to deal with your hair is always a pro especially when you have to go to school.
When seasons change the weather change and your hair also changes. When the weather is colder and the air has no humidity in it my hair is subject to breakage so being tucked in a protective style can help stop some of the breakages.
Hair growth is another part and pro of protective styling. Reducing manipulation of your hair will promote hair growth. While in a protective style your not touching your hair and your hair will grow.
CONS Retaining Moisture can be hard to do when your hair is in a style, there are products to help condition hair.
Breakage after taking out a style is a normal and natural process. Another con for me would be the process of the takedown of the protective style it is usually long for me, depending on what kind of style.
To me, the pros of protective staying outweigh the cons.
